The Benefits of Nature-Based Self-Care in Autumn

"It's the first day of autumn! A time of hot chocolatey mornings, and toasty marshmallow evenings, and, best of all, leaping into leaves!"- Winnie the Pooh, Pooh's Grand Adventure

Autumn is a beautiful season, in fact it is my favourite season, with the leaves changing colour and the crisp, fresh air it is just amazing. In this blog post, we'll explore the benefits of nature-based self-care in autumn, and how spending time in nature can help you feel more grounded, calm, and connected. We'll also share ideas for nature-based self-care activities that you can try this season.

As the “summer” fades away and the leaves change their colours, autumn welcomes us with its unique charm. It is a time when we can embrace the beauty of nature and practice self-care by spending time outdoors.

Here are some additional benefits of nature-based self-care in autumn:

  • Boosts immune system: Spending time in nature during autumn can help improve our immune system. As the temperature drops, our body needs to adapt to the changes, and exposure to the natural environment can help strengthen our immune system.
  • Reduces stress and anxiety: Autumn can be a busy time with back-to-school season, work deadlines, and festive preparations. Taking a break from our daily routine and spending time in nature can help reduce stress and anxiety levels, providing a sense of calm and relaxation.
  • Increases creativity: The vibrant colours of autumn can inspire creativity and imagination. Spending time outdoors and connecting with nature can help us tap into our creative side and boost our overall well-being.

To make the most of nature-based self-care in autumn, here are some activities you can try:

  • Go for a walk in a park or woodland area: Take advantage of the cooler weather and explore a nearby park or woodland area. The fresh air and exercise can help improve your physical and mental health.
  • Have a cosy picnic: Pack a basket with your favourite snacks and enjoy a picnic in a scenic location. This can be a great way to relax and connect with friends and family. I would certainly take a blanket for two, and a pumpkin spiced latte! (or maybe a hot chocolate)

  • Collect autumn leaves: Take a stroll and collect colourful leaves to create a DIY autumn decoration. This can be a fun and creative way to spend time outdoors, even if you just end up walking around.
Autumn is a wonderful season to connect with nature and practice self-care. With these ideas and benefits in mind, take some time to enjoy the beauty of autumn and prioritise your well-being.

I hope this little tit-bit into a different side of Autumn has made you think and curious to head into Autumnal nature.
