"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill
Saving money is always a good idea, and there are many ways to do it. Here are four money-saving tips for living in a cost of living crisis:
- Make a budget: One of the best ways to save money is to create a budget and stick to it. Start by listing all of your monthly expenses, including rent/mortgage, utilities, food, transportation, and entertainment. Then, look for areas where you can cut back, such as eating out less or cancelling subscriptions you don’t use. But do not cut out all of the nice things as this will make you feel miserable.
- Take advantage of sales and discounts: Many retailers offer sales and discounts throughout the year, so keep an eye out for them. Sign up for email newsletters from your favourite stores to get notified of upcoming sales. You can also use discount codes and coupons to save money on your purchases. If you are a student or have a student in the family USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE!
- Reduce energy consumption where you can: Energy bills are only going up and trying to cut back it more difficult that you think. . Turn off lights and electronics when you’re not using them, and consider investing in energy-efficient appliances. You can also lower your heating costs by using a programmable thermostat and sealing any drafts around windows and doors. Candles are also a great way to add heat to a room and that look super cosy and create a warm atmosphere.
- Use the buses and trains: Owning a car can be expensive, with the cost of petrol, insurance, and maintenance and now clean air zones. Consider using public transportation instead, as it can be much cheaper. Using a range of transport including buses, trains, and trams can save you a pretty penny especially if you plan ahead. You can also save money by walking or cycling instead of driving short distances.
I know these tips are not going to suit everyone and with Christmas coming ever closer we are all worried and feeling the stretch. But we will get through it and truthfully....you cannot get help if you don't ask for it.
People are not mind readers and we often need a hint when you're struggling so please let somebody know if you are. Do NOT suffer in silence.
