Beauty Is Subjective

“Beauty is subjective and should not be limited to only what we see on the outside.”
 - Alex Wek

Have you ever felt like you’re not pretty enough? Your nose isn’t small enough or you haven’t lost enough weight?

Well, if you have. I’m so sorry. Because you’re so goddamn beautiful!

I’ve been there too, heck, I’m still there sometimes and it sucks. It sucks not seeing myself in a positive way. Sometimes it even breaks my heart. It also breaks my Mum’s heart. She hears it and says “you were made so beautifully by God, why can’t you just appreciate the art. You wouldn’t change a painting, would you?”

Thinking about it like that, it makes me feel sad that I fail to see myself as art. So many of us do. And we are art.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a size 22 or 6, it doesn’t matter if you have a tooth gap or a bigger nose. All of these features are beautiful.

The answer comes down to beauty being subjective. There are many different types of beautiful that are presented in each of us. Besides beauty doesn’t even have to be a physical thing. The words we speak, our actions and hearts reveal beauty too.

There’s so much more to “physical beauty”.Today I hope that you see that too, and that you’re able to see that you were designed so uniquely and beautifully. You are beautiful.

Love,
Imaan xx
