How To Pick Yourself Back Up

Are you in a rut? Here are some tips to pick yourself back up.

“Self-care is not self-indulgence, it is -self-preservation.” – Audre Lorde

Life can be hard when you’re feeling down. Sometimes I just want to stay in bed and binge watch my favourite shows but I know it’s not always healthy. Here are some ways I bring myself back up.

 1. Shopping: Retail therapy is always fun! You can do this alone, online or even with friends. Making a day out of shopping can help you feel excited about all the new purchases. Personally, shopping makes me want to work harder so that I can treat myself.

 2. Exercise: That can be going for a walk and observing nature, dancing or lifting weights. Exercising releases endorphins which also makes one feel more positive. I know I’m always more energetic and excited after a good workout. It makes me feel ready to move towards my goals!

 3. Meeting friends and family: Positive people around you can make you feel optimistic about life. A lot of times we need positive reinforcement to remind us that we can get better. The people in your life can bring so much positivity and growth to your life. Whenever I hang out with the people I love I feel happier to see that they also love me. Going out for a meal definitely puts me a happier mood.

 4. Read books: There are so many books out there on self-help! It doesn’t even have to be self-help books, dipping into a good fiction can be so entertaining. I know when I’m reading it makes me want to be more creative. I end up wanting to write my own novel!

 5. Creative Writing/ Journaling: Tying back to the point earlier. Writing your own story and exploring different styles of writing are a great way to access your mind and your wildest fantasies. Creative writing as a productive exercise is great to exercise your mind. Journaling your thoughts and feelings helps to store and maybe even release all the negativity. Whenever I put my feelings on paper I am able to view my thoughts from an outsider perspective and see that I need to take care of myself again.

 6. Art/ Painting: Staying creative! I love painting sometimes, it’s very rare for me but it always makes me want to practice more and better myself. This as an activity is therapeutic, when I’m relaxed I feel joyous, and when I’m feeling
positive I also feel strong and ready to take on new challenges.

7. Makeup/ Getting ready: Wearing an outfit that you love and/or doing your makeup can make you feel confident. When I do my makeup I feel less anxious and more beautiful in my skin, enhancing myself allows me to see my worth. It makes me want to live life where I'm growing non-stop.

If you're in a rut or feeling low I hope that some of these tips can be enjoyable and useful. To pick yourself back up all you need to do is things you enjoy!

Love,
