What Is Self-Care? : Different Habits That Ensure Self-Care

"When we care for ourselves as our very own beloved - with naps, healthy food, clean sheets, a lovely cup of tea - we can begin to give in wildly generous ways to the world, from abundance." Anne Lamott, Author.

Everyone always talks about the importance of self-care, and sometimes I find myself wondering what self-care actually is. From my knowledge self-care is when you do anything to take care f your physical or mental health. There are so many things you can implement in your life to make sure your mind and body are doing well.

Here are some of my habits that remind me to love myself and take care of myself.

  • Doing skincare at morning and night time:
This is something I do to treat my skin and keep it moisturised. My skin tends to be dry so keeping it hydrated is important to me.

  • Drinking water:
Another physical way I take care of myself is by keeping myself hydrated. It's healthy for women to drink about 64 ounces a day, so this is something that I implement to keep myself fresh and energised throughout the day.

  • Sleeping early:
I can't function if I sleep for less than 7 hours, so to ensure a good quality of sleep I make sure I sleep 7-8 hours a day. I do this by getting myself prepped before bed time.

  • Watching YouTube videos every morning:
I know many people do no get much time to watching anything due to busyness, so I take it as a privilege being able to watch one video. As someone who tends to feel anxious in the mornings, watching a relaxing vlog from Michelle Choi, Jenn Im, Sophia Chang or Ashley Alexander really helps me feel ready to face the day.

  • Making time to paint my nails and cleaning my cuticles:
There's nothing more therapeutic than popping on a film or show, and sitting down to clean up your nails and making them pretty. I look forward to doing this every week because it truly relaxes me.

  • Colouring/ Drawing ( being creative):
Another therapeutic activity, this is something I do very rarely. However, when I do it, I feel happier being able to touch on my artistic side.

  • Teeth care:
I enjoy flossing and brushing my teeth twice a day. Being able to take care of my teeth is self-care.

  • Washing the dishes and cleaning:
This is great for your self-care. Living in a clean and tiny environment makes one feel happy and peaceful. I know I eat, sleep and feel better when my home is clean.

There is a variation of habits that help me complete my everyday self-care routine.
I love that there are so many ways to ensure Self-Care in your life. It doesn't have to be just physical, mental or emotional. It can be different things that touch on all three types of self-care.
With these examples and breakdown, I hope that you can find ways to implement habits that enable you to take care of yourself.
Remember to take it easy, never be hard on yourself.

Enjoy taking care of yourself!

Love,
Imaan xx
