Self-Care for Introverts: How to Recharge Your Batteries and Honour Your Needs

"No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself." Virginia Woolf.

Self-care is something that all of us should be able to do and being an introvert often means we prefer to do things by ourselves, alone, which is often what selfcare is about. But nonetheless here are some self-care tips specifically tailored for introverts:

Schedule alone time: Make sure you have enough time to recharge your batteries by scheduling alone time, even if it's just for a few minutes each day. Being on your own is healthy, we need to be comfortable with our own company.

Find a quiet space: Seek out a quiet space where you can relax and unwind without any distractions. This could be a place where you feel relaxed, your bedroom, the bath or even a library. We all have our own spaces where we feel safe enough to relax.

Practice mindfulness: Take time to be present in the moment and focus on your thoughts and feelings. This can help reduce stress and anxiety, you may feel the need to write them down or speak them out loud, both of these can help you to be present.

Engage in creative activities: Engage in creative activities that allow you to express yourself without any pressure or judgment. This doesn't even have to be something out of the ordinary, be a little more creative with your makeup, add that blue eyeliner do it! Switch pen colour when you write something down, or go all out and paint your feelings onto a blank canvas.

Say no when needed: Don't feel guilty about saying no to social events or activities that don't align with your needs or values. I know I am guilty of not doing this, I often find it difficult to say no in certain situations and then try and fit whatever I said yes to into my weekend or week. Saying NO is an option even though it might be difficult.

Connect with friends: Connect with your friends and spend time away from your everyday life and surroundings. This really helps with resetting yourself and focusing on happy times.

Remember that self-care is not selfish, and taking care of your own needs can help you feel more energised and fulfilled in your daily life. Self-care is for everyone, and we all have our own needs.
