My Night Routine: A Guide To Improve Your Sleep

“Sleep is the golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.” – Thomas Dekker

People are often shocked to find out that in order to wake up early you also need to sleep early, or at least have 7-8 hours of sleep. Without sleep one simply cannot function, I know I can't. Here is an insight to my night time routine and things I do to ensure I have a good quality of sleep.

Drinking herbal tea: my personal favourite is peppermint but you could drink whichever herbal tea you enjoy. Drinking an herbal tea helps food to digest thus allowing relaxation to come quicker. I drink herbal tea an hour after dinner and it really helps me to feel light.

• Doing my skincare and brushing my teeth: I think it's important to maintain health in teeth by brushing my teeth twice a day and flossing. Washing your face is also important to rid of all the germs you've collected throughout the day, but even at the end of the day skincare is vital. Not only does doing skincare at night relax you but it also preps your skin for the next day. It keeps your skin hydrated all night.

 • Getting in bed by 7pm: During this time, I watch television, but being in bed sends my brain the message that it’s time to sleep soon. Some days are harder when I’m not sleepy but the majority of days I fall asleep within seconds.

 • Reading in bed: Reading as an activity is therapeutic, I love going on an adventure before bed. But reading also tires me out within 30 minutes. Whenever I read before bed my quality of sleep is great.

 • Keeping the volume low: As I mostly watch tv or YouTube videos before bed, I try to set the mood by keeping the volume lower than normal. When the volume is low I use more energy to listen, quiet sounds make me drowsy.

 • Comfy Pyjamas: There are days when I struggle to sleep and that usually is caused by uncomfortable jammies. I find it much more comfortable when I wear light, airy and more baggy pyjamas, this way I stay cool and weightless throughout the night.

 • Setting a cool atmosphere: Quality of sleep is best when you’re cool, this is certainly true for me. Summer nights are the hardest to sleep, I’m usually tossing and turning. Sleeping in a cool environment with a fan on or an open window I can sleep feeling a nice breeze.

These are just a few things that I focus on to improve my sleep. I hope that my routine could be useful to some of you and that it will help to actually improve sleep. Good quality sleep is hard to achieve for many, so please do not be hard on yourself!

Love,
Imaan xx
