Makeup: Is It The Secret To Beauty?

"Makeup is not a mask that covers up your beauty; it's a weapon that helps you express who you are from the inside." - Michelle Phan

I am a woman that loves doing makeup, I love the process of waking up in the morning, washing my face and brushing my teeth, then slowly applying my skincare and then starting my makeup. It honestly feels very therapeutic to me. It feels like I've been sucked into a 'Vogue's Beauty Secrets' video and I feel confident.
Here are some of the reasons that I love doing my makeup, some have been briefly touched on in my introduction.

  • Therapeutic: The process of doing makeup can be relaxing. I personally like to do mine slowly which makes it feel like I'm doing an ASMR video. Starting my day with makeup helps me to relax and process everything I need to get done in my day. It's one of the things that helps me with my anxiety when I know I'll be heading to work soon.

  • Enhancement: Makeup is so versatile which is why I love it! There's just so many ways you can use it to make you look a certain way. I love that it helps me embrace my natural beauty by adding highlights to enhance certain features and contour to construct my face. It is mind blowing.

  •  Confidence boost: If I leave the house without makeup, I tend to feel more tired and gross which I know is a bit unhealthy. But makeup gives me the boost I need to feel beautiful and confident. It helps me express myself in ways I usually am unable to.

  •  Artistic Expression: There's so much you can express with just your makeup. Depending on the colours you use and the glam. I often find that my makeup is based on my moods or seasons. If I feel happy I go for more "happy" colours such as pink, purple, yellow, and in winter I try more blue shades, purples and cool toned browns. My makeup is sometimes even a representation of my favourite music or film.

  • Versatility: I've already touched on this, but there are many ways to experiment with makeup. Depending on the amount of product you use, you can create natural looks or even full glam.

  •  Acceptance: I deal with many insecurities, so doing my makeup and being able to play with my god-given features is something that allows me to accept myself the way I am. Makeup actually helps me to have a better relationship with myself as I don't see my bare face as something ugly but in fact I see it as something already beautiful that I get to enhance with makeup.

Now, when I say I love enhancing myself with makeup I don't mean that I need enhancing. It's something that touches on my creative side and gives me a confidence boost. It also feels like I'm taking care of my face because it encourages my skincare regime. Makeup gives me the opportunity to take care of myself and see myself in a more positive light.

I'd love to know if there are any people out there that view makeup in a similar way, or you might not like makeup at all. Whichever is your opinion, I'd love to know why and have a bigger conversation.

Love,
Imaan xx
