"It's not being the best. It's about being better than you were yesterday." - Unknown
Have you ever felt like whatever you were doing wasn’t good enough? Have you ever felt imposter syndrome whenever you achieve something?
Have you felt insecure in a job role because you don’t know if what you’re doing is correct?
If so then, welcome to the club!
It’s completely normal to feel like you’re not good enough. You’ll be surprised how many people actually feel that way.
In almost all the jobs I’ve had, I’ve had a longing to belong - to feel like I deserve the job I have. To feel a sense of purpose. But so many times my own insecurities kept me from doing my best. There were times my bosses were proud of me, but I wasn’t proud of me. This kept me from accepting that I was good enough. I didn’t believe I was good. I kept telling myself that I’m a phony.
When I look back at the girl who didn’t believe in herself, my heart honestly breaks for her. She definitely missed out on opportunities because she didn’t want to grow and become better at her job.
Growing in your job role may seem difficult but it really isn’t. All it takes is resilience, determination, motivation and faith. It’s about being ready to learn something new everyday!
Here are some ways I have allowed myself to open up and make room for improvement
1. I remind myself everyday that I got my job because of my hard work and that I deserve to be where I am. With that mindset I am able to respect my colleagues and still feel welcome and part of the team.
2. I remind myself it is okay to make mistakes, as long as I am asking for help and learning how to correctly do things. Everyone makes mistakes, it's a human thing to do so there shouldn't be a pressure to be prefect.
3. I remind myself that my colleagues are human too - there are things they do well and things not so well. Everyone has different skills. Just because I'm not great at something doesn't mean that I'm not great at other things.
4. I remind myself to take my break. Yes, I've made the mistake of skipping my breaks to catch up with work and honestly, it only slows me down because my concentration levels drop like crazy.
5. I remind myself that it can take time to fully learn the work you are required to do. Things can only improve with time, and a willingness to learn.
I'll stop here but there's a lot more I can write. Like I said before. All it takes to improve is resilience, determination, motivation and faith. So if you ever feel like you're not good enough, please remind yourself that YOU ARE! That you have just as much as right as everyone one of your colleagues. That You deserve to be in your role.
You are strong, hard working, beautiful, powerful and fearless!
You can do great things!
Love,
